Kids Mud Run FAQ

Q. How long is the course/How long does it take to run it?
A. Our new course is about a mile long. Time will differ depending on age and ability, but our average time is about twenty minutes.

Q. Can a runner bypass an obstacle?
A. Yes.  We want runners to have fun, but we do encourage them to challenge themselves.

Q. Can parents be on the course?
A. Only participants are allowed on the course.  Spectators can follow runners on the outside of the course tape.

Q. Will there be anyone to assist the runners?
A. Yes, 1-2 volunteers are stationed at each obstacle and throughout the course to assist runners and ensure safety.

Q. What ages can run?
A. The Kid’s Mud Run is for ages 4 to 10. We encourage those over 10 years old to join the fun by volunteering. Find more information at our volunteer page.

Q. Will older kids run the course with younger ones?
A. Yes – runners are released first come/first served within their start time. This allows siblings and friends to run together.

Q. Are participants timed?
A. The event is not timed.  To encourage fun, the challenge is to finish messy and muddy.

Q. What should I bring?
A. Make certain your children wear proper running shoes (no sandals). You may want a change of clothes, sunscreen, a beach towel, or goggles. Runners are encouraged, but certainly not required, to wear the Mud Run t-shirts included with their participant packet.

Q. Do I need a release form?
A. Yes, but to make your life easier, we have now made this part of the registration process! By registering for this event, you are agreeing to release Sammamish Friends from all liability, as outlined in our liability waiver. You can read it by clicking here, or within the registration process. You may purchase multiple tickets at the same time, but you must agree to a release for each ticket. Walk-up registrants will be required to sign a paper release at the event.

Q. Can I get a runner packet before the run?
A. Update: Participant packets will be available at the check-in table the day of the run.

Q: Why the change of location?

A: We are always trying to come up with new and exciting ways to encourage kids to be active. By moving to a new location, we can change and add to the course and try out new obstacles.

Q. Where is parking?
A. There is parking at East Sammamish Park and street parking along NE 16th St. Runners may also park at Margaret Mead Elementary, where a gate at the back of the school connects to the park. Please consider walking if you live in the neighborhood!

Q. Where do we check in?
A. Check-in will be at the pavilion by the playground.

Q. Do we have to be there at a specific time?
A. We ask that participants arrive no earlier than 30 minutes prior to their run time, and no later than 30 minutes after their run time. When you register, you will select a block hour for your start time. Runners will be released every five minutes on a first-come, first-served basis within that hour. This means if you’re a little late, it’s okay! You can still get checked in and run.

Q. Is there anything to do while we wait for the runners to finish the race?
A. The playground is a popular place for kids! There is also a soccer field to shoot goals or throw a frisbee in and walking trails that will not be part of the run.

Q. How muddy is the Kids Mud Run?
A. As muddy as you want to get! Some people are able to complete the course without much mud; others get muddy for the fun of it! We strongly encourage you to bring a towel and a change of clothes. Additionally, children may want goggles.

Q. Are there refreshments?
A. Yes. There will be water and snacks for the runners, donated by Safeway and Trader Joe’s.

Q. Still have questions? If you don’t see something you’re looking for, please email us at kidsmudrun@sammamishfriends.org
